Fast bowler Brett Lee burst onto the international scene with a five-wicket haul on debut in the 1999 Boxing Day Test against India.

After Australia posted 405 in a rain-affected first innings, Lee took centre stage, claiming a wicket with the fourth ball of his first over in Test cricket.

The New South Welshman then picked up the prized scalp of Rahul Dravid before terrorising the Indian lower order, taking three wickets in an over.

Lee was regularly clocked at over 150km/h throughout the match as he went on to finish with first innings figures of 5/47 and 7/76 for the match – the best by a debutant in a Boxing Day Test.

It would be the start of a successful international career for Lee, who went on to take 310 scalps in 76 Tests at an average of just over 30.

Australia won the Test by 180 innings to take a 2-0 series lead.
