Cleary provides trade update on Coniglio, Patton and the Hill brothers

2019-07-05T18:22+10:00

AFL.com.au journalist Mitch Cleary has provided a number of trade updates, including his thoughts on Stephen Coniglio, Jon Patton, Brad Hill and Stephen Hill.

All have been linked to moves out of GWS and Fremantle respectively.

Hawthorn – Jon Patton

“They’re either going to top up with the likes of Stephen Coniglio, if they can land him, Jon Patton is in their sights, I’d be surprised if he wasn’t at the Hawks next year, or they go young," Cleary told AFL Nation.

“It’s the salary cap that’s the issue with Patton. I think he’s on $600,000-$700,000 per year and the Giants tried to offload that money last year like they did with Tom Scully, but couldn’t find any takers, but now that’s another year on with his contract, there’s going to be more suitors.”

“He’s due back in the next month (from his ACL tear), but I don’t think he’s going to crack into that side.”

Stephen Coniglio

“My feel is he’s staying at the Giants on a long term contract, but every week transpires, you have to continue to ask the question because we’re into Round 16 and we don’t have a contract for him at the Giants.”

“He was in Melbourne a few weeks ago, I’d be shocked if he didn’t meet with the Hawks and the Blues. They’d have to feel like they’re some kind of chance.”

Brad and Stephen Hill

“The Cats have definitely asked the question about Brad Hill.”

“He has told the Dockers that he wants to back to Victoria either this year or next year. He’s got a contract until 2021, his brother Stephen Hill looks unlikely to be there next year. He’s out of contract, Stephen.”

“I think Brad wants to move back to Melbourne to be with his partner who is very homesick in Perth.”
