Scrap international T20 cricket says Berry

2018-11-16T10:14+11:00

Former Australian cricketer Darren Berry wants international T20 games scrapped a concept, saying they’re not necessary.

Australia will face South Africa in a one-off T20 match tomorrow night on the Gold Coast and Berry is annoyed it’s getting in the way of vital Sheffield Shield games that could determine the Test side versus India.

“These international T20 games are a waste of time. I say keep T20 cricket as a domestic tournament only and scrap the international versions,” Berry told SEN Mornings.

“We need these players to have some really solid Shield cricket leading into the first Test.

“I believe these international T20 matches that are taking place, they’re getting in the way of our preparation for Test cricket.

“I know the market and I know the young audience likes T20 cricket. I’m more than happy with the Big Bash, I love the Big Bash, but what’s the point of an international T20 game just before a Test series?

“Does anyone really care about international T20 cricket?

“These T20s are robbing the opportunity of players playing in the Shield. We’re playing too many meaningless games.”

A massive round of the Sheffield Shield gets underway today, with essentially the entire Australian Test squad to be determined in-part by their performances in this block of games.

Glenn Maxwell won’t get his chance to prove himself for the Test team as he’ll be on the Gold Coast for the T20.
