Carlton president confirms Teague's job is safe for 2022

2021-06-09T12:06+10:00

Carlton president Mark LoGiudice has confirmed that coach David Teague's job is safe for 2022.

Carlton announced on Tuesday that an external review of the club’s football department will take place with Teague’s Blues struggling in 14th with a 4-8 record.

“I want to be very categoric here, this is not a review of the coach, this is a review of the football department,” LoGiudice told The Herald Sun.

“Everyone is making this out to be about David Teague, that it’s a panic, believe me we are very calm and measured about the way this is going to get done.

“David Teague has coached 39 games, he is the coach and he is contracted for next year.

“There’s no panic here, I promise you.”

Four-time premiership coach Leigh Matthews offered Teague some advice.

Speaking on Sportsday, Matthews encouraged Teague to focus on his “core role” which is preparing the team for their next match.

“You’ve got to put your life into compartments,” Matthews said.

“If you’re involved in the footy world you’ve got to be very good at doing that. You’ve got to try and compartmentalise.

“You’ve got to get back to functioning on what we’ve got to do this week with our team.

“You’ve got to still concentrate on your core role and your core role is to prepare the team to have the best chance of winning next week.

“But when this is all going on around you then you know that becomes much more difficult to focus on.”

Carlton’s next match is against GWS at Giants Stadium on June 19.
