Coronavirus forces AFL to postpone season

2020-03-22T16:14+11:00

The 2020 AFL season has been postponed until at least May 31 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It comes as Victorian Premier Dan Andrews confirmed a complete shutdown for all non-essential businesses while South Australia and Western Australia will begin 14-day isolation periods next week.

Speaking at a press-conference on Sunday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison advised against non-essential domestic travel as the coronavirus crisis deepens.

A Collingwood staff member, who was recently overseas, tested positive to COVID-19 and has been in quarantine since returning to Australia.

All Round 1 matches have been played behind closed doors to combat the virus.

There will be no AFLW premier for 2020 after the remainder of the season was cancelled.
