Swans CEO Harley addresses Daniher speculation

2019-08-06T08:24+10:00

Sydney CEO Tom Harley has quashed any talk of the Swans making a play for Essendon star Joe Daniher.

SEN’s Time On host Sam McClure reported on Monday that Daniher flew to Sydney to hold a private meeting with Harley which was later confirmed by Swans coach John Longmire.

The two share a close friendship after their time together at the AIS prior to Daniher being drafted to the Bombers.

“We’ve been in touch for eight years now,” Harley told SEN Breakfast.

“Joey was up in town seeing a surgeon late last week and we caught up, a bit stiff to be seen to be catching up, but I can understand the appetite of it all. Nothing to see here.

"The kids were home after school and he popped around to say g’day … nothing sinister but I do understand that it caused a bit of a stir.”

Harley revealed at no point in the meeting did any discussion regarding a potential trade take place.

“We haven’t discussed that. We’ve been mates for a while and he was picking my brains about all sorts of things,” he said.

“He’s with the Bombers and I’d expect him to be with the Bombers for a long time.”

Daniher, 25, chose Essendon over Sydney as a 16-year-old in 2010 having been eligible for both clubs as a father-son.

The 2017 All-Australian has played just 11 games in two years due to a persistent groin injury.
