Report: Big-name Giant could be squeezed out as Victorian teams circle

2019-09-07T12:09+10:00

GWS is seemingly set to lose Adam Tomlinson in the upcoming trade period as they ready themselves to deal with more out of contract stars next year.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the Giants are concerned about making room for Lachie Whitfield and Jeremy Cameron’s contract extensions, which could see the utility squeezed out.

Tomlinson has been linked to the likes of St Kilda and Carlton in previous trade periods, but has always opted to stay with GWS in the end. The report suggests Melbourne is the early front-runner.

The restricted free agent could earn upwards of $500,000 if he departs, money that likely won’t be there at the Giants.

GWS hosts the Western Bulldogs in an Elimination Final this afternoon and Tomlinson was a shock omission for the game.

The Giants have gone with veteran Brett Deledio in his place, while also recalling Toby Greene, Nick Haynes and Jacob Hopper.

The Western Bulldogs go into the game with an unchanged line-up.
