Malcolm Blight has been notified that former Adelaide coach Don Pyke could land the vacant senior job at Fremantle.
Pyke parted ways with the Crows after four years at the helm, making him the club’s third-longest serving coach.
Having spent several years in Western Australia both as a player and coach, Blight feels a return to Perth could be on Pyke’s radar with the Dockers job still up for grabs.
“Someone has mentioned to me today, and I won’t say who, that someone that might know something said: ‘Does this sound like Don Pyke may end up as the next Fremantle coach?’” Blight told SEN Afternoons.
“If you think about it, he’s a Perth boy, his family is from Perth and they are really Perth orientated, he’s had a great four years at Adelaide – what about the challenge of a new club in his home state?

“Would that be on his agenda? The fact he doesn’t think he can go further with Adelaide, that’s fair enough.
“I think as soon as he made that decision and now his head is clear of the Adelaide Football Club, someone might be knocking on his door now from Fremantle.”
Pyke won two premierships with the Eagles and coached WAFL club Claremont for two years.
The 50-year-old guided Adelaide to a Grand Final appearance in 2017 and departs with the best win percentage (60.75%) of any full-time coach in the club’s history.
