Cashed up Lions to be active again in the trade period

2019-09-14T20:30+10:00

Brisbane were one of the bigger players in the 2018 trade period, landing Lachie Neale, Lincoln McCarthy, Marcus Adams and Jarryd Lyons and they will be active again in 2019.

Lions CEO Greg Swann has not only confirmed the club has money it can spend, but also players who have expressed interest in coming to Queensland.

“We’re looking for a couple (in the trade period),” Swann told AFL Nation.

“We won’t do a lot, we probably won’t be as big players as we were last year. (Our 2018 trade pick-ups) have all been fantastic for us.

“We have (got cap space). We want to keep putting good players in the system.

“We need probably a bit more depth and you always need midfielders, but we’ll see what’s out there.

“The advantage for us at the moment is that we’ve actually got some people who are interested in coming, so that’s a good thing that’s probably changed massively over the last three or four years.”

Brisbane have been the biggest improvers of 2019, jumping from 15th to second.

Their recruiting, trading and retention of talent in the last few years have been key parts in that rise.
