The surprise coaching option Adelaide should pursue

2019-09-13T09:54+10:00

Terry Wallace has given a glowing endorsement to a potential candidate for the vacant Adelaide coaching job.

Following the departure of Don Pyke yesterday, there has already been plenty of talk as to who will be his replacement.

Former Western Bulldogs and Richmond coach Wallace feels the Crows would be negligent if they did not at least ask the question of Brisbane’s GM of Football, David Noble, who is a former head of footy at Adelaide.

“I have a person in mind that I would be absolutely going down the path, and I think that the person in mind will say no, that he’s going in a different direction,” he said on SEN’s The Match Committee.

“But I’d be banging down the door to find whether I could turn him around because we already know everything there is to know about David Noble.

“I think that he would be absolutely sensational.

“He’s coached a VFL premiership, he’s coached local football in Victoria and won premierships, he’s coached at U18 level, he’s gone to Glenelg. So in that marketplace they know exactly what he’s like as a coach.

“He’s done every single role from interim CEO through to list management through to head of footy. He’s done every single role as Chris Fagan had done at the Hawthorn Football Club.

“He’s gone up to Brisbane and been able to, with Chris Fagan, resurrect something and turn it around. He will say, ‘I’m not in that marketplace, I’m in the marketplace of becoming a CEO. I’ve done all my courses for that’.

“There is no reason, with what he’s done in football, that he could not go into a coaching position and then go back to head of football or CEO roles. He’s got that broad brush.

“I think they would be negligent in not picking up the phone and going and meeting him.

“My knowledge of David Noble after working with him at the Western Bulldogs a long, long time ago, is that he wanted to be a coach. I still believe in his heart of hearts he’s a coach.

“He would be the one I’d go after.”
