Nathan Brown is set for a stint on the sidelines after a heavy bump on Essendon’s Adam Saad.
Saad broke through the midfield and gave a handball away before being cleaned up by Brown, three steps after he disposed of the footy.
The defender was stretchered from the ground and the replay shows he suffered some severe whiplash.
Garry Lyon slammed Brown for the “weak act”.
“Anyone can do that. I think when Nathan Brown looks at that, he’ll be disappointed with himself,” he told AFL Nation.
“He totally blindsided him, he’d handballed the ball off and a 105kg bloke comes through and just finishes your night.
“That’s not in the field of play. It’s off the ball and totally unwarranted.”
Gerard Whateley was equally unimpressed, labelling it a "cheap shot".
“His season’s over, that’s for sure,” Whateley added.
“That’s a really terrible moment.”
Essendon is now two players down with Brendon Goddard done for the night with a knee injury.
