Paine and Pant's fiery Perth test exchange

2018-12-17T05:32+11:00

Test cricket gets fiery at the best of times, but tensions were high in the late session of the Perth test.

With India on the attack, Tim Paine and Usman Khawaja simply had to survive until stumps.

Paine was clipped on the pad by a ball going down legside which prompted the Indians to appeal loudly for caught behind.

While the umpire quickly turned them down, vocal wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant wasn’t going to let the moment go unsaid.

“If he messes it up Vijay, it’s two nil,” Pant could be heard saying on the stump mic.

This prompted Paine to reply – “you’ve got to bat first, big-head.”

Obviously, this isn’t a massive deal, but highlights what was a tense final session of play.

Indian captain Virat Kohli was particularly fired up all day, particularly after his controversial first-innings dismissal.

Kohli signalled to the crowd on multiple occasions, calling for more noise from Indian fans and could be heard sledging Aussies players hard in Hindi.

Australian coach Justin Langer wasn’t particularly impressed, telling SEN Cricket after the match succinctly that Kohli’s antics were “white noise”.

“It is what it is,” Langer added.

Things continued as the two opposing captains led the field with Paine and Kohli engaging in another exchange of words.
