Cornes' theory on why Adelaide will let Lynch leave

2018-06-02T13:21+10:00

Former Port Adelaide premiership player Kane Cornes believes Adelaide are willing to let Tom Lynch leave the club to stock up on draft picks.

Lynch is out of contract at the end of the season and Cornes said the quality South Australian prospects in the draft have the Crows willing to give up a few assets.

“I’ve got a theory on this, I think the Crows are happy to let him go,” he told SEN’s Crunch Time.

“They’ve offered him a three-year contract and it is very modest in terms of his ability and if he signs it, he signs it, but I get the feeling they’re trying to absolutely load up for the draft.

“There’s a number of really good South Australians, they already get Melbourne’s first round pick as part of the Jake Lever trade.

“I think they’ll get a first round pick for Lynch and if Rory Sloane leaves, they could have four first round picks in what’s an absolute super-draft.

“So I think Tom Lynch will be back in Victoria, maybe even at the Saints where it all started.”

Regarding Gold Coast’s Tom Lynch who’s also out of contract, Cornes believes he’ll also return to Melbourne.

“(Lynch will be in) Melbourne somewhere, probably Collingwood, but I can’t see any way he’s at the Suns hearing Stewart Dew speak during the week I think it’s a foregone conclusion that he’s out of there,” he said.

Former Western Bulldogs coach Terry Wallace believes the race for the Suns skipper is between three teams.

“Richmond, Collingwood or Hawthorn I would think,” Wallace added.
