Why Lloyd believes the Bulldogs can break into the top four

2020-02-25T09:24+11:00

Essendon great Matthew Lloyd has predicted the Western Bulldogs to push for a top four spot in 2020.

The Bulldogs finished last season strongly, winning seven of their last nine matches to make the finals before falling to GWS by 58 points in a one-sided elimination final.

Speaking on Sportday on Monday night, Lloyd says the arrival of Josh Bruce, who booted 171 goals in 113 games for St Kilda, will compliment the likes of Sam Lloyd, Aaron Naughton and Josh Schache.

Lloyd's 38 majors topped the club’s goal-kicking in 2019 with emerging forward Naughton placing second on 32.

“They (Western Bulldogs) are the bolter that can bolt up and be a top four team,” Lloyd said.

“They’ve got Josh Bruce to come in as well, so suddenly they were a team that relied on smalls to and kick them goals; I think Sam Lloyd won the goal-kicking last year – you’re not going to really go too far if Lloyd’s your leading goal-kicker.

“Aaron Naughton, Josh Bruce and Josh Schache surrounded by some smalls around them, it’s exciting times for the Bulldogs.”

The Bulldogs round out their Marsh Series against Port Adelaide at Bennett Oval in Whyalla on March 7 ahead of their Round 1 clash against Collingwood.
