Eddie Betts admits training camp played a part in Crows exit

2020-03-04T11:27+11:00

Eddie Betts says Adelaide’s infamous 2018 training camp contributed to his decision to leave the club at the end of last season.

After the Crows’ heavy loss to Richmond in 2017, the Crows headed up north to the Gold Coast to partake in a camp that was widely criticised for being too invasive on several fronts.

Since that pre-season, Adelaide hasn’t made the finals and appointed Matthew Nicks as coach ahead of the new season after former boss Don Pyke resigned.

Betts said on SEN Breakfast the camp “was a part” of the reason why he moved back to Carlton.

“There’s a lot of things that went on and a lot of unhappy players,” he said.

“It was a part of it, not a full part of it.

“Eventually my family and I were going to move back to Melbourne anyway.

“When the opportunity come up to come back and play for Carlton, I took it.

“I believe it was the right time in my career and where I am at the moment to move back.”
