Cummins confirms Australia's first Ashes Test XI

2021-12-05T15:10+11:00

Australian Test captain Pat Cummins has confirmed his Ashes XI for the first Test at The Gabba.

Speaking at the official launch of the series, Cummins ended speculation surrounding the side by confirming that Travis Head would bat at number five and Mitchell Starc would remain in the bowling attack.

While Cummins was willing to put his cards on the table, England captain Joe Root said he’s going to wait to look at the pitch further to name his side.

“We've got all the options on the table (but) we're not going to name a team just yet,” Root said.

“We'll have to see the closer forecast and how that pitch changes over the next couple of days.

“But it's a great place to play spin. It's something we'll weigh up and consider, but we're not in a position to make that call right now.”
