Off-contract Ryder linked to Victorian club

2019-08-22T17:34+10:00

Port Adelaide ruckman Paddy Ryder could be on his way to St Kilda, according to SEN Drive host Andy Maher.

Ryder, who will come out of contract at season’s end, has been tabled a one-year offer from Port, but is holding out for a lengthier deal.

According to The Age, the veteran big man is attracting interest from former club Essendon having departed the Bombers at the end of 2014.

The Saints are in the market for a ruckman to provide support for the emerging Rowan Marshall, with North Melbourne’s Todd Goldstein and Essendon’s Sam Draper previously linked.

“Paddy Ryder to the Saints, that’s what I’m hearing,” Maher told SEN’s Bob and Andy.

“He (Rowan Marshall) needs some help, he can’t keep going on his own the young fella.

“He needs a veteran hand to assist. That’s what I’m being told.”

Ryder has played 242 games since he was taken with pick No.7 in the 2005 AFL Draft.

The 31-year-old was dropped from the senior side in Round 14 but was recalled after five matches in the SANFL.
