McClure defends Essendon/Cox trade approach story

2019-10-09T09:39+11:00

Telstra AFL Trade Radio’s Sam McClure has defended his story, suggesting the Bombers have approached Collingwood about a trade for Mason Cox.

The Herald Sun today wrote a story saying Essendon has denied the report, with list manager Adrian Dodoro suggesting it was “inaccurate”.

However, McClure strongly stands by it.

“It’s very strange that (Essendon) would say that. People should believe who they want to believe, ultimately,” he said.

“The report is completely accurate, like 1000 per cent. Essendon approached Collingwood about a trade for Mason Cox.

“I’m not sure why they have denied it. It says they’re not pursuing Cox, there were people on radio this morning saying that his manager Adam Ramanauskas has said that Essendon haven’t met with Cox.

“At no stage in my story with Michael Gleeson did we say that Essendon has spoken to Mason Cox.

“This is what happens at this time of year, people don’t take time to read stories and they start denying things that weren’t said.

“It’s very strange that Essendon is being so defensive about something they claim hasn’t happened.

“I am not sure why they are denying something that has happened. I don’t know what they are taking it so personally. This is the same club that rang me the day after the Joe Daniher story and said please take your story down, you’ll be embarrassed by it and two months later he requested a trade to Sydney.

“I never said that (Cox would be at Essendon in 2020). Gleeson and I went out of our way to write that it will be a very hard trade to get done because he is in Sydney at the moment and tomorrow he flies out to Texas.

“I think it would be very unlikely that the trade gets done.”
