Blues complete trade for Melbourne AFLW star

2020-08-06T16:36+10:00

Carlton has pulled off the biggest deal of the AFLW trade period to date, landing Melbourne star midfielder Elise O’Dea.

O’Dea joins the club alongside former second round draft pick Maddy Guerin.

Negotiations heated up over the last 48 hours, with the Blues handing over pick 15 for the pair.

They acquired that pick from Richmond in the Sarah Hosking trade.

O’Dea, 28, was contracted for the 2021 season with Melbourne and contemplated retirement before requesting a trade to Carlton.

A two-time AFLW All-Australian, O’Dea has been a key pillar of Melbourne’s midfield since the inaugural season.

Guerin, 20, has played six games for the Demons across her three seasons at the club and can play across half forward or down back. She tore her ACL back in February.
