“She’s the real deal”: Pfitzner & Elliott's early look at the Group 1 Thousand Guineas

2022-08-11T11:20+10:00

Leading racing form analysts Dean Elliott and Miles Pfitzner have given an early push for some key runners in this year’s Group 1 Thousand Guineas.

With the race still some time away, it's hard to narrow their selections down to one, but the boys have still had a crack at trying to find a few that are at a juicy price!

Take a look at their early selections.

Thousand Guineas - Caulfield (1600m)

(October 12)

KOSHU

“Koshu is the one I want to talk about, just go back and have a look at this replay,” Elliot told SEN Track.

“She had one start in Sydney and just blew them away, that was on the back of a little old 740m trial at Randwick and she came out two weeks later and just obliterated what was a handy enough field over 1100m.

“She is bred to get out over a trip being by this Japanese stallion Satono Aladdin who stands in New Zealand and is a son of Deep Impact.

“She’s this big leggy filly that wants to be a three-year-old, wants 1600m, I wouldn’t plug her as a soft tracker at all, she’ll probably go to another level on the firmer tracks.

“She has got so much upside, I would be saying have a bet now in the Flight Stakes and have a smaller bet on her in the Thousand Guineas.

“She is super exciting, along with Paris Dior, who is going to be there when the whips are cracking but the one who could just go through the roof and go to another level and be a real excitement machine for a couple of seasons to come is Koshu.

“If everything goes her way, she might just be a brilliant stand-out three-year-old filly, and I know she’s only won a maiden but we look at these profiles and she is just ready to step into Group company and she’ll be one of the favourites.

“She’s the real deal.”

Odds: $18

Miles Pfitzner

GREECE

“I gave this horse a big push last year thinking it was going to get up to make the Golden Slipper," Pfitzner said.

“We have a horse called Greece who is from the Coolmore camp and I Am Invincible.

“We saw this horse trial the house down at Rosehill, and it didn’t handle the heavy tracks at all.

“She is big, she is bullish, she is broad chested, I think she’s bred for the mile and $61 for me with a horse I think has serious ability is probably the way I’m leaning for the overs here.

“When I’m coming back in with those two or three lead-ups, I’m going to find overs like I did last year with Yearning and Elusive Express.”

Odds: $61
