Adelaide’s budget: All roads lead to ‘Operation Izak’

2022-09-27T15:07+10:00

Every club has a wishlist but every club also has a budget.

But not many out there know exactly what is on said list or exactly what each club has up their sleeve to spend.

Josh Jenkins has given each of the 18 clubs a round $1 million figure to spend THIS trade period on a player or players they require.

This is a hypothetical look at what a club needs, but ensuring the players in question are somewhat gettable and the deals are not fanciful.

It is what Jenkins thinks is needed and how the clubs in question should spend their $1m.

To kick things off, Jenkins has taken a look at this former club, the Adelaide Crows.

Adelaide’s budget - Operation Izak

Jenkins believes the Crows should spend their cash on Gold Coast talent Izak Rankine.

“I’m comfortable with Adelaide going chips-in for Rankine at the suggested figure, and I think he will get a million multiple times in that deal,” he said on AFL Trade Radio’s Trade Mornings.

“They’ve blown the socks off him and they’ve sideswiped the Gold Coast.

“If you’re going to offer him $925,000, just make it a big, round, fat, bold one million dollars.

“I think they’ve spent their whole budget for this segment on Izak, but this is the condition - either he or Josh Rachele has to be around the ball at all times.

“They can’t both be inside forward 50 at the same time. One of those two has to be around the ball because they’re both dynamic, but neither can yet play as a genuine midfielder.

“You’ve invested a pick 6 in Rachele and you’ve invested the best part of a million on Rankine, one of those two has to be around the ball at all times, because that will solve a few of their issues around the ball.”
