Suns make three further list changes

2021-11-10T17:38+11:00

Gold Coast has made three further list changes with Hugh Greenwood, Rory Thompson and Jez McLennan agreeing to be delisted.

However, the Suns confirmed that they have committed to adding Greenwood and Thompson back to the primary list ahead of the 2022 season, and re-selecting McLennan via the rookie draft to “assist the club’s overall list strategy”.

Greenwood played 15 senior games this year, averaging 8.6 tacklers per game - the most of any player in the AFL.

The ex-Crow also averaged 17.5 disposals and 6.2 clearances before missing the end of the season due to a knee injury.

Thompson hasn’t played at AFL level since Round 19 2018 after suffering two ACL injuries. McLennan is yet to debut for the Suns.

Suns General Manager of Player Talent and Strategy, Craig Cameron, explained the club’s decision to delist the trio.

“We’ve had a deliberate strategy on improving our list over the past four years and that hasn’t changed during this year’s trade and draft period,” Cameron said in a club statement.

“Having a high number of contracted players, we have had to explore all possible options to comply with AFL requirements.

“I would like to thank Rory, Hugh and Jez for agreeing to this temporary measure which will allow the club to redraft them to our list ahead of next season.”

The Suns currently hold picks 3, 97 and 115 in the upcoming National Draft.
