Only a “massive disaster” would see Georgiades leave Port Adelaide

2023-08-29T11:00+10:00

Mitch Georgiades is expected to remain with Port Adelaide beyond 2023.

The 21-year-old forward comes out of contract this year and is yet to sign on with the Power.

Georgiades, who ruptured his ACL in April, has reportedly had interest from some rival clubs with West Coast and potentially even Richmond among those somewhat keen.

However, SEN’s Sam Edmund believes the Western Australian native will be staying put at Alberton as contract talks continue to bubble along.

“There’s a school of thought that Port could part with Mitch Georgiades who still curiously, despite all the positive noises out of Alberton, has not put pen to paper on a new deal,” Edmund said on SEN’s Whateley.

“I’ve checked in with that this morning, it would take a massive disaster for this deal to fall over.

“He’s going to stay, it’s been a long negotiation, a lot of clubs have enquired about Mitch Georgiades, maybe even Richmond.

“He’s recovering from that torn ACL. He’ll be doing that at Port Adelaide, unless there’s a huge twist in the road that no one can see coming.

“It’s all been trending the right way for a long period of time. I think this will happen, he’s staying at Port Adelaide.”

Georgiades joined the Power via the 2019 National Draft when he was selected with pick 18.

Across four AFL seasons, he has played 49 games and kicked 65 goals including career-best 32 in season 2021, but played just twice in 2023.
