Power assistant has spoken to Blues about senior coaching job

Port Adelaide assistant coach Michael Voss has revealed he’s had a discussion with Carlton about their senior coaching vacancy.

Voss confirmed to SEN SA Breakfast on Monday that he has spoken to the Blues, but that’s as far as it has gone.

Carlton is on the hunt for its fifth senior coach in nine years after parting ways with David Teague last month.

“I’ve had a discussion with them (Carlton), but it hasn’t progressed anywhere else as of yet,” Voss said.

“I won’t confirm who and how, other than I’ve had that conversation.”

Voss was asked if he’s prepared to go through the Carlton coaching process after reportedly interviewing for the Collingwood job in July.

“I would if I’m involved,” the ex-Brisbane coach replied.

“But I’ve got to be honest with you, I’ve given it little thought.

“Once the Collingwood coaching job had finalised, I haven’t given much thought to anything else because there was such a big month that was coming up.

“I guess that’s what the next few days hold for me, assessing where that’s all at and making some decisions off the back of that.”

The 46-year-old said there’s a “strong chance” he’ll remain at Port Adelaide next year if he doesn’t land a senior gig.

Voss coached the Lions from 2009 to 2013 before joining Port Adelaide in 2015 as the club’s midfield coach.

He was promoted to senior assistant at the Power in 2019.
