Melbourne fear McDonald could miss “a bit of footy” with suspected Lisfranc injury

Melbourne could be without forward Tom McDonald for an extended period with the tall set for scans on an injured foot.

The 29-year-old was a late withdrawal for Saturday’s loss to Sydney due to the complaint with Mitch Brown his replacement.

While McDonald trained throughout the week, Demons coach Simon Goodwin is concerned the goalkicker could miss “a bit of footy” as the club believes that the foot concern is a Lisfranc injury.

“It’s looking more like a Lisfranc,” Goodwin said on 3AW.

“We need to get some more scans and some more information about what that looks like.

“It is a bit of a concern in that space, but we’ll get all the information in the next couple of days, have some more scans, speak to some doctors around what the best method is moving forward.

“At the moment, Tom looks like missing a bit of footy and he’ll be sorely missed because he’s a really important player for us.”

McDonald could be joined on the sidelines by Harrison Petty who suffered leg and shoulder injuries in the loss to the Swans.

The Demons will hope to bounce back from two straight losses when they face the Magpies on Queen’s Birthday at the MCG.
